Backpacking in Kyushu (Nagasaki)

Japan Adventure - 2019 Summer Trip

“When you're traveling, you are what you are, right there and then. People don't have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road.”

Nagasaki - Days 3 and 4
Arriving early, I wasted no time to look around since I am only staying a day and a half in this beautiful city. The rain just won't stop.

Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall is a place to remember and pray for the victims of the bombing in 1945. Next to it is the Atomic Bomb Museum which covers the history of Nagasaki atomic bombing in World War II and the development of nuclear weapons. Near the museum is the Nagasaki Peace Park where the peace statue is located. Melancholy descended with the rain after I got out of the museum, so I went to my accommodation and moved the itinerary for the next day.

My fourth day in Kyushu and the ground is still damp. After having danish and coffee for breakfast, I searched my way to Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown - the oldest Chinatown in Japan. Meganebashi Bridge; a designated cultural property, is one of the most popular attractions in Nagasaki and is a walking distance from Chinatown. Aura Church is the oldest Christian church in Japan. Next to the church is the Clover Garden which is where the oldest Western-style wooden house in Japan is found. My last destination, Suwa Shrine has a 277 staircase that leads to many buildings in the shrine. After this, I hopped on the highway bus heading to Fukuoka.

I was enjoying my trip - just focusing on this adventure, being free, taking all in, and just being me. Nagasaki reminded me of my hometown.
