Solo Hiking Mt. Mitsutoge

Breathe and take it all in.

The best weather I had in all my hikes has provided the clearest and most amazing shot of Mt. Fuji and the Japan Alps.

5:46 - Departure from Shinjuku station

Took the Chuo Rapid Line to Takao.

Changed train at Hachioji - Same line bound for Matsumoto

Change line at Otsuki station - Fujikyuko Line Local towards Kawaguchiko

7:57 - Arrived at Mitsutoge station

8:15 - Started hiking

From the station, it is over a kilometer walk to the forest trail. You can also drive. I saw three parking lots along the way.

11:50 - arrived at one of the rest areas below the summit - from here it is a 10-minute walk to the top. Had lunch, took lots of pictures, and prepared to head down the mountain.

12:30 - descended down

2:49 - arrived at Kawaguchiko station

3:50 - bus left for Shinjuku station

Transportation is usually full or limited on weekends so better buy your tickets ahead or get to the station as early to catch the latest bus or train back to Tokyo. I was fortunate that there was one available seat on the 3:50 bus or else I would have waited for 4 hours for the next available bus.

 Duration: 6.5 hours

 Distance: 17 km

 Elevation change: 1171 metres

 Highest point: 1785 metres

 Start: Mitsutoge Station (Fujikyuko Line)

 Finish: Kawaguchiko Station (Bus)
